One aspect of Tevis Energy’s company culture is community outreach and involvement. Employees are encouraged to bring need awareness from their communities into our professional team meetings. Departments have the option to offer their team members casual dress days in exchange for donated goods. During the month of July, donations were gathered for the Believe in Tomorrow’s Children House at Johns Hopkins.
We all believe each cause is special. This cause was near and dear to our Tevis family. Our friend and coworker, Jason Hughes and his family, recently became familiar with the Children’s House first hand.
Jason has been serving our customers for over ten years! In his time with us, Jason has been a home heating oil and propane delivery driver. Most recently he joined our commercial fuel team.
Jason Hughes’ son Joshua, spent over 6 weeks in John’s Hopkins this past winter. While there, Jason and his wife Lisa spent many nights in the house.
The house provides a space for families to gather, sleep, and eat while remaining very close to their hospitalized child. The house charges $20 or less a night. The fee is dependent on the families’ ability to pay. This includes a home cooked evening meal. The evening meals are donated from Baltimore local restaurants, volunteer organizations as well as individual families in the area.
As a way of saying thank you to the house, Jason brought in the 2017 Spring Wish List. A decision was made to focus on Kitchen and Personal Care needs. The items pictured were collected from our John Street and Joppa Road locations.
If you are wondering, Joshua is doing great! Jason is a proud poppa in the office, showing new pictures daily to everyone who asks!
We learned a great deal from Jason about the house. From its construction to daily operations – the facility is run almost completely on community involvement! There is a need for volunteers, organizers of community fund raising events and much more! If you are interested in donating to Believe in Tomorrow’s Children House at Johns Hopkins, Click here.
