The community that has the odd name of “Maryland Line” brushes right up against the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland, otherwise known as the Mason-Dixon Line. It sits off of Interstate 83 and Md Route 45, also known as York Road. There are a lot of cool places to visit in the town that occupies the space that sits the farthest north in all of Baltimore County! Some of these aforementioned places include The Fill’Er-Up, Stonebridge Grill (a bar), the Maryland Line Postal Service, Slaysman Forge, Inc. (a blacksmith), Maryland Concrete, Inc. (a ready mix concrete supplier), Penn Mar Organization, Inc. (a social services group), Bull’s Supply (a masonry supply store), The Crab Stand (a seafood market), PNC Bank, U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer (a truck rental agency) and the Maryland Line Volunteer Fire Company.
You may have noticed that the name of this town is quite unusual because it also has the state it resides in included in its name. However, Maryland Line wasn’t always called its current name; it was once known as the community of New Market. Unfortunately, Frederick County, Maryland has another town named New Market and the U.S. Postal Service would often mix up mail between the two locations. Ultimately, Baltimore County’s New Market made the switch to Maryland Line!
