Monkton, Maryland gets its name from Moncton, New Brunswick. The area was settled by Robert Cummings, an immigrant who first lived in Pennsylvania, but then moved to Monkton, MD (which he called Monckton Mills at the time). He was inspired to chose the name “Monkton” because one of Cummings’ old flings, Rosanna Trites, had moved to Moncton, New Brunswick with other German immigrants in Pennsylvania. Cummings left her behind to settle Monkton, Maryland. The area is very agricultural and has a close connection to horses. Many horse farms exist just a small jog east, in a community called My Lady’s Manor.
