New Windsor is the favorite spot of many Carroll County residents who like to tour throughout the state of Maryland. This may be because of New Windsor’s historic beauty and proximity to Westminster, which has access to great shopping and other activities. However, there’s a lot you can did within the borders of New Windsor as well! This includes a visit to Atlee Ridge Park, Sulphur Springs Park, the Carroll County Public Library Administrative Offices, the New Windsor Fireman’s Building, Uncle Matty’s Eatery, Belisimo’s, New Windsor Liquor & Deli, Xtreme Fabrication, the Brother’s Brother Foundation, New Windsor Service Center, 7-Eleven, Three Rays Motor Sports, Seasons at Magnolia Manor, Hoober, Inc., Alpha Co. Diesel, UFP New Windsor and Party Zone Entertainment.
New Windsor was originally called Sulphur Springs, since one of its local springs was once thought to carry medicinal properties that could be bestowed upon those who drank or bathed in it. This name, given in the late 18th century, lasted until the early 19th century when it took on a more English title. The town first served to aid the junctures of wagon trails nearby, but soon lured people to it because of the sulfur springs that were said to heal people. Eventually, residents saw profit in this belief and started a bathhouse and inns. One inn, the Dielman Inn, was over 10,000 square feet!
