Perry Hall Mansion is one of the locations in Perry Hall, Maryland that has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The mansion is actually what inspired the name for the community, which sits on a hill overlooking Gunpowder River Valley in eastern Baltimore County. Dorsey Gough was a wealthy merchant from Baltimore who grew up and immigrated from England. He took over Perry Hall Mansion in 1776 and gave it the same name as his childhood mansion in England, which was known as Perry Hall Park and sat in Perry Barr, England. The mansion even impacted the naming of U.S. Route 1, which was (for a short time) referred to as Perry Hall Road.
