Sparks, Maryland is just north of Cockeysville, Hunt Valley, Towson and Baltimore City! The community sits in Baltimore County and is a nice rural area, just outside of the hustle and bustle of great Baltimore City and its increasingly urban suburbs. You can get to Sparks by traveling on York Road, also known as MD Route 45. It sits in between two landmarks called The Paths at Loveton Farms (which is located to the south) and Sparks Park (which sits to the north). There are a lot of things to do in Sparks, but it also maintains the scenic, rural beauty that so many people love about Maryland.
If you find yourself in Baltimore County’s unincorporated community of Sparks, consider visiting The Filling Station (a café), Milton Inn, Great Feathers (a fishing store), Price’s Groceries & Spirits, Special Resposne Corporation, Sparks Fairgrounds, Sparks Post Office, Oxford Risk Management Group, The Goddard School of Sparks, iRF Solutions, Walten Independent Insurance Agency, Harvey Agency, Element Fleet Management, Trellis (a special education school) and the National Lacrosse Hal of Fame and Museum.
Sparks has been a busy places since its settlement in the early 19th century, when the Baltimore and Susquehanna Railroad began to lay track throughout Baltimore County and specifically over a bit of land that was owned by Sparks’ founding family, the Sparks family. Part of President Lincoln’s funeral procession went through Sparks’ Switch, which was the local name for the segment of track that ran through the area. Other than transporting passengers and freight, Sparks also was the center for many dairy operations.
