Sparrow’s Point I surrounded by many waterways, including Jones Creek, Old Road Bay, Penwood Channel, Sparrow’s Point Channel, Patapsco River, Brewerton Angle, Coal Pier Channel, Marine Channel, Sollers Point Shoal, Humphrey Creek and Bear Creek. Some institutions and businesses throughout Sparrow’s Point include Lafarge Cement, Baltimore County Fire Rescue Academy, Atlantic Forest Products, Pleasant Yacht Club, North Point Yacht Club, Young’s Boat Yard, Atlantis Marina, Meehan’s Marina, Sparrow’s Point Shipyard Industrial Complex, Atlantic Forest Product Warehouse, FedEx Ground, Access World, Under Armour Distribution House and more.
Toms Point is a smaller point located on the outskirts of Sparrow’s Point. The Susquehannock Tribe originally lived on this land and often lived off the resources of the water, which was ridiculously plentiful and filled to the brim with fish, oysters and aquatic plants. The land was eventually granted to Thomas Sparrow Jr., who’s son was the one to actually inhabit it and nickname it “Sparrow’s Nest” (very original). While it first was a rural location, it eventually became home to the Maryland Steel Company and Bethlehem Steel (of Bethlehem, PA). Additionally, Sparrow’s Point became an important location for ship building and repair.
