Windsor is located just to the east of York County, Pennsylvania’s center. It is a regularly sized borough with a little of 1,300 people living in it at the time of the 2010 census. The name of this borough wasn’t always Windsor—it was once called “Windsorville.” The name Windsor came from England, which has a town quite famously called Windsor. The area was settled around 1830, and 75 years later (in 1905) it was incorporated as one of York County’s many boroughs. In more recent news for the borough, Windsor’s local baseball field recently received a huge sum of fund from York County’s Marcellus Shale fund and the PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources. With $350,000 to make use of, Windsor has begun to build a handicap-accessible bridge, playgrounds, bleachers and a wetland area to capture runoff. This project has been in the works since the beginning of 2016!
The borough of Windsor is run by several employees, a mayor, council members, a tax collector, an animal control officer, a codes enforcement officer, a solicitor, an engineer, water & sewer authority members, the Laurel Fire Department and the Windsor Lions Club. The borough regularly holds Council Meetings and Authority Meetings, which all residents of the town are allowed and encouraged to attend. Pennsylvania Route 624 runs through Windsor, which is located to the south-east of York and Harrisburg. Its proximity to these locations makes it a good spot to live in for people who want a small town life, but work in a busy, urban area.
